me: ok, jim, you are NOT allowed to do this any more;
jim: do what?
me: you are not allowed to put '<?' in your code without the suffix of php appended to the tag, it has to read '<?php' from now on. okay?
jim: ehhh, do I absolute have to add the 'php'? it's so much more work to append that to each tag.
me: you HAVE to jim!
jim: why? it works on my apache...
me: it's so much more work to add a semicolon to the end of every statement of code.
me: it's so much more work to close your brackets...
me: but you HAVE to do these things to prevent your code from erroring; so just do it! okay?
jim: okay.
